AFAFI Sud

AFAFI Sud

The Support Program for the Financing of Agriculture and Inclusive Sectors in the South and South-East of Madagascar (AFAFI-South), by contributing to economic recovery and sustainable rural development, is one of the priorities defined for EU intervention in Madagascar under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF). This programme, amounting to 31.5 million euros, aims to contribute, in a sustainable manner, to the reduction of poverty and the sustainable improvement of food security and the nutritional situation of rural populations (in particular women) in the south and south-east of Madagascar. It targets approximately 250,000 people concentrated in 4 agro-ecological zones in three regions: Androy, Anosy and Atsimo Atsinanana (11th EDF)

Goals

  • Improve the resilience of populations to climate change.
  • Sustainably improve the food and nutritional security of rural households in Androy and Anosy.

Expected results

  • Local varieties and breeds are improved and made available to rural populations for enhanced food security.
  • The environment is restored and the soils are preserved thanks to the agro-ecological blocks.
  • The structuring of agricultural and livestock activities makes it possible to generate income and thus improve living conditions.
  • The nutritional situation of the most vulnerable is strengthened through the prevention of malnutrition in children under five at the level of the CAEMs, through awareness-raising actions on good food, care and hygiene practices, and the provision of fortified infant flour.
