FANONGA

The FANONGO project, which means “progress”, aims to improve food security and the management
disaster risk to build resilience in the Atsimo Andrefana region.

Goals

The resilience of the population to natural disasters/adverse effects of climate change will be strengthened through the systematic implementation of sustainable measures aimed at increasing food security and disaster preparedness in the Atsimo Andrefana region.

Expected results

• The village population is prepared for natural disasters; local disaster prevention committees fulfill their tasks in terms of risk and disaster management and also incorporate criteria for adaptation to climate change;
• Disaster prevention instruments/measures in cooperation with public authorities are known.
• The region and the district have a disaster prevention and climate change adaptation plan and are implementing some of the key measures of this plan / in which the targeted fokontany are integrated.
• The target municipalities have access to drinking water and their user behavior has evolved positively in terms of water, hygiene and sanitation.
• 7,700 households / families are able to improve their food security through techniques adapted to climate change / sustainable agricultural practices.
