STRADIV
In the context of small tropical farms, the identification of these conditions requires:
- (i) develop and integrate scientific knowledge on processes related to plant diversity and its management and
- (ii) implement an exchange platform to enable farmers and other local stakeholders to strengthen the biodiversification of their agroecosystems.
The STRADIV project will provide answers to the main scientific obstacles that prevent a successful ecological transition of agroecosystems. These questions, at the interface of disciplines and scales, are linked both to the management of plant diversity, the integration of biophysical and ecological processes in systems that optimize ecosystem services, such as the formalization of a multi-stakeholder dialogue -scale and multi-actor within functional platforms allowing the improvement of negotiation with and between farmers.
Goals
The main objective is to define the conditions necessary for the ecological transition of cultivated agrosystems through cultivated biodiversity with a participatory approach at the different levels of scale concerned.
In Madagascar, the objectives will be to:
- Create a fairly broad innovation platform around sustainability involving researchers, producers, representatives of active POs, other forms of social organizations, technicians, public actors (STD/CTD, DRDA or CIRDR , municipalities), public and private operators;
- Hybridize local and scientific knowledge on biodiversity introduced by thematic workshops; these thematic workshops will feed the innovation platform and the co-design of bio-diverse cropping systems at the different levels of scale required;
- Refine the ecological processes underlying the operation of contrasting technical models testing a biodiversity gradient;
- Capitalize on knowledge and test different scenarios for improving existing systems by modeling
