World Food Program

The World Food Program (WFP) is the world's leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger, providing food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

While the international community has pledged to eradicate hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition by 2030, one in nine people in the world still do not have enough to eat. Food aid is at the heart of the fight to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.

For his efforts to fight hunger, for his contribution to improving conditions of peace in conflict-affected areas, and for being a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war , WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.

Every day, 5,600 trucks, 30 ships and 100 WFP planes are on the move to bring food and other forms of assistance to those most in need. These numbers explain WFP's unrivaled reputation as an emergency responder, thanks to its ability to respond quickly and effectively in the most challenging environments.

WFP focuses its efforts on emergency assistance, relief and rehabilitation, development assistance and special operations. Two-thirds of our work takes place in conflict-affected countries where people are three times more likely to be undernourished than those living in countries without conflict.
